Come and meet the shepherds

Events & best practice

The shepherds on the Serre Chevalier estate perpetuate an ancestral tradition in the heart of the mountains.

Their presence gives rhythm to the mountain pasture seasons, between caring for the herds, managing the pastures and preserving the landscape.

Discreet but essential players, they contribute to the balance between nature and human activity, and embody a strong and authentic relationship with the land.

This summer, from mid-July to mid-August, you can meet the shepherds and enjoy an authentic mountain experience.

THE CAPERCAILLIES ON THE DOMAIN

"The Poulailler": This is how a zone of the CibouĂŻt mountain was once called, a natural refuge for the capercaillie, an emblematic bird of our mountains. But who is this discreet inhabitant of the heights, and where does it nest on the domain? To find out, meet with Sidonie Bourdel, Mission Officer for Capercaillie Awareness in the Southern Alps:

#viaferrata

Defy the rock faces!

Discover the via ferrata routes in the Serre Chevalier area!

The via ferrata, which originated in Italy, consists of climbing rock faces equipped with cables, ladders and metal steps, in order to proceed safely.

The Serre Chevalier area offers two routes not to be missed*:

Via Ferrata du Rocher Blanc - Chantemerle
Enjoy a magnificent view from the wall, made up of limestone and pink sandstone, adding a unique geological touch. The first route is ideal for a gentle introduction: it alternates between playful passages and easy sections, with a slightly steep entrance to spice things up at the start. The second is for those who want a little more thrill: more vertical and aerial, but still short and accessible without being extreme.

Via Ferrata des Neyzets - MonĂŞtier
More challenging, this route takes you up a ridge with a breathtaking view of the DĂ´me du MonĂŞtier glaciers and the Guisane valley. Longer and slightly more demanding, it is suitable for experienced climbers.

**We strongly advise you to practice via ferrata with a professional. Contact the Serre Chevalier Guides Office for information on opening conditions.
